Y YY YYY The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman What Love Language Do You Speak? From the Critics: This isn't the first book to point out that what communicates love to you might not mean a thing to your mate. But Gary Chapman says it the most clearly, and most convincingly. His well-defined languages explain why so many well-meaning spouses find expressions of love so frustrating. Marriage Partnership Y YY YYY Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts by Drs. Also great because written by husband and wife team, so both perspectives are well represented. YY YYY Getting Ready For Marriage Workbook by Jerry D. Hardin & Dianne C. Sloan How to really get to know the person you’re marrying From a Barnes & Noble Reviewer: An EXCELLENT tool for deepening relationships! This book is a great workbook for couples preparing for a marriage relationship. The chapters are short, but very informative, and the questionnaires can be quite a revelation to couples who have only scratched the surface with each other. Y YY YYYLove For a Lifetime: Building a Marriage That Will Go the Distance by Dr. James Dobson In a divorce-happy society, it seems that when life rains on our parade, we head for separate umbrellas. It opened my eyes to so many of the everyday things that pull couples apart. I loved it! Y YY YYY Sexual Intimacy in Marriage by William Cutrer, M.D. & Sandra Glahn Getting the Most Blessing From Marital Sex If you want to take sex out of the closet — while keeping it out of the gutter — here's help. From an obstetrician-gynecologist and seminary professor comes a fascinating and helpful manual. It comprehensively covers the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual components of sex as God designed it to be. Y YY YYYThe New Bride Guide: Everything You Need to Know for the First Year of Marriage by Ellie Kay Build a Secure Foundation for Your Life Together Ellie Kay will not only help couples cut costs (without cutting quality) on their wedding. Ellie's humor and practical advice on effective communication, building a spiritual bond together, how to get along with your in-laws and more, makes this an easy-to-use, fun-to-read handbook for planning your wedding and making the most of your first year of marriage. From a Barnes & Noble Reviewer: Get It Before You Marry! The Groom Should Read It Too! I was supposed to get this book for a friend of mine, but as I started to browse through it, I ended up keeping it for myself! And I'm not even getting married! There is a lot of practical information and habits that a single person can use and develop now, as well as knowing what premarital questions to ask. Also, there is helpful in-law information to know before you get into a bind. Kay includes a great reference list of other books and services to help you develop a meaningful and productive life. Highly recommended!! YY YY YYY The Love List: Eight Little Things That Make a Big Difference in Your Marriage Are You Giving a Daily Dose of Hugs? The doctors have prescribed eight healthy habits — well within reach of every couple — that can refresh, transform and restore the intimacy of your marriage relationship. Filled with practical suggestions and assessments on implementing each behavior, this book will help you make daily, weekly, monthly and yearly improvements in your marriage. From an amazon.com Reader: I ran across this book by accident and was instantly hooked. Unlike many relationship books, the author talks sense rather than nonsense. There is nothing fancy here, nothing that costs money. Nothing that requires elaborate preparation. The main idea is that husband and wife need to be intentional about nurturing the marriage and they probably need to talk about important stuff a lot more than they are probably doing now. The ideas here speak to me. I can see my wife and I putting this into practice over the long run. Skinny book, and a fast read. Take your time, read it two or three times, give it to your spouse to read and then talk, talk, talk about the ideas. I'd say this is for folks like us - good marriages that could be better. This is probably not the recipe for repairing a damaged relationship. |
